Sara Baartman was a woman that was exploited in many different ways. She was made into a prostitute, shown in freak shows across Europe and was the first known as a person in a Human zoo.
The Hottentot Venus was taken from South Africa and toured in London and France. She was on tour to show her large buttocks and her elongated labia. People were intrigued. She was put into a cage and viewed by the Europeans. She was considered possibly a missing link in the theory of evolution. She died in 1815 at age 25. Upon her death she became into somewhat of a science experiment. Her body was made into a cast and her private parts were put into a glass jar. She was then on display in a museum until 2002 when she finally went back to her homeland for a proper burial.
